Discover over 150 years of history and follow in the footsteps of over 25,000 prisoners as you make the journey through Northern Ireland’s only remaining Victorian Era prison. The self-guided tour will allow you to explore the building’s colourful past and gain a unique and memorable insight into the daily lives and routines of both prisoners and prison officers over the Gaol’s existence. Throughout the building you will be informed via information boards and videos about the Gaol’s history including when women and children were imprisoned, the executions that were carried out, its more recent history and learn about why the decision was taken to close the prison.
The will cover all aspects of the Gaol from the Tunnel linking the courthouse on the other side of the Crumlin Road to the Hanging Cell, the Historic Holding Cells, Centre Circle, C-Wing and Graveyard.

Accessibility
The Tunnel is the only area not wheelchair accessible (accessed via stairs), there is a video in this area, showing the Tunnel for customers who can’t get down. The facilities are designed to be accessible to guests with disabilities including:

Provision of seating at various points throughout the Gaol.

Taxi - Cost is around £5-7 for a taxi from City Hall to Crumlin Road Gaol.
Walking - it is a 30 minute walk from Belfast City Hall.
Bus - take Metro 12b or Metro 57 from Chichester Street.
Car - Parking is available at Crumlin Road Gaol, just take a right once on Clifton park Avenue.
